Los Campensinos! and Girls @ The Record Bar 08.12.09

The KC concert event of August if Passion Pit doesn't show?

(500) Days of Summer 5/5

Finally saw it, love it, and the flick is joining Annie Hall, High Fidelity, and Swingers in the romantic films from
the dude perspective pantheon. "(500)" is definitely the best thing Fox Searchlight has put out since Napoleon Dynamite. This swell podcast of an interview with the writer Scott Neustadter is hilarious and heartily recommended.

Star Trek 4/5

Go see this movie in the theater.  It has stakes, strikes the perfect tone, passes out wit like skittles and even got me emotional.  I’m not a big Star Trek or Lost fan and had no interest in viewing it until I saw the 96% Rotten Tomatoes rating.  It might be the most well cast quasi ensemble ever.  If you have even the faintest interest in watching it on DVD go see it this weekend, enjoy yourself, and spit on the Wolverine poster on your way out.

It's Coming

Forget an NBA team what this city really needed was a killer downtown rooftop pool scene. As reported by other blogs and TheStar.com The Jones pool will open on June 13 and be quasi membership only.  Since the episode of Entourage that features The Standard hotel I’ve felt < for not having already drank deeply the waters of a rooftop pool, and this Gawker post last May ratcheted my pool lust up to the breaking point.  I felt the need to re-blog about this because I wasn't sure if the other sites grasped the enormity of this watershed event in KC history.  Here’s hoping The Jones is cool enough to get LJ in the water, with or without the jeans and sneakers, but not so cool that we can’t get in the door.

Kills @ The Bottleneck 04.23.09

If an effort to manufacture something to blog about I'm getting in the wayback machine and spewing old thoughts on the Kills show.  According to a goth in the restroom the Horrors played all new stuff which was annoying as I had repeatedly crammed their two OK albums down my ear in an effort get more out of the set.  Even if it wasn't just new stuff it could still be argued that the highlight was their frontman knocking out an acoustic tile.

The Kills, however, were incredible.  I found myself hesitating to get another drink because almost every song KILLED and I didn't want to leave the direct rays of their aura.  The Pitch did decent writeup and Paul Shirley posted his exitlude with Mosshart here
